Yes, It’s happening at last
I had a 4.00am start on 29th, a sad farewell from Merry then a 12 hour journey. I arrived at my Hostel at nearly 10.00pm
Today I’ve been doing the touristy things. My first impressions of Seoul is that it WORKS. There are plenty of buses, signs in English and the Metro is modern and clean. I got lost in the metro as it is a bit confusing at first but everybody is helpful and they ask you if you need help. There is absolutely NO graffiti!
I got on the Hop on Hop off bus and toured the city then went to the Palace (actually there are several Palaces
I tried the local food in the market. Very tasty. Sorry I have no idea what its called
I went for a walk along the banks of a stream that runs trough the City Centre. Before 2005 it was covered over with concrete. Look what they’ve done to it! There are murals along the wall with scenes from Korean History, along with music
I needed an International adapter….Could I find one…No. There are NO electrical goods on sale in the street or many shops….at least in the City Centre so I visited the big Department Store called Lotte. It is simply enormous. I’ve never seen a shop this size anywhere. There were literally thousands of people shopping and it isn’t a weekend!
I eventually got the adapter by the way but i had to make a special journey to get it!
I passed this very friendly Police Station!
I must say I am very impressed with Korea. It is efficient , friendly, and very tourist conscious with Information booths everywhere and people in uniform on the streets there to help us tourists!
Last night I tried another Korean dish for dinner, stir fried pork. Very nice but WHAT on earth is the salad? Now,I’m not big on salads at the best of time but this huge leaf looked like a stinging nettle and tasted worse.
My Hostel is clean and friendly and cheap…$40 per night for single room with ensuite.
I wouldn’t suggest you cancel your Hotel if you’re going to Seoul. The room is so tiny you really couldn’t swing a mouse let alone a cat! My bath towel is straight out of the Hobbits! Just look how tiny it is! The shoe is there for perspective
I have heard Azulo is waiting for me in Donghae (The Ferry Port for Vladivostok) but I also heard that my Russian Agent may not be able to clear Customs till 8th or 9th!
So, it looks like I’ll be hanging around Vladivostok for a few days!
